First Appointment
If you are a new patient to Olive Tree Dental a new patient exam is carried out first to ensure you are dentally fit for the treatment. We carry out a comprehensive assessment of your mouth, and take X-rays and photographs of your teeth, whilst also examining the soft tissues such as your gums and tongue, as well the gland area.

The need for dental treatment will be diagnosed. If you have expressed that you are nervous prior to this appointment, we can offer to use The Wand and we can also offer to use sedation to help you relax whilst we examine you.

Second Appointment
If a decision is made to combine both The Wand Technology and sedation then a sedation assessment is carried out either in-person, over the phone, or on a video call. We will assess what needs to be carried out, and request that you fill out an anxiety questionnaire and medical form. A sedation assessment is carried out and we will request that you fill out a consent form.

If you are aware that you suffer from dental phobia and going to the dentist is often an unpleasant experience, this is an opportunity to help us to understand what triggers your anxiety by taking a few minutes to fill in this form Nervous Patient Form. Not only will it give us a detailed insight into your fears, but it will allow us to better prepare for your upcoming appointments at the practice, ensuring a smoother patient journey.

Third Appointment
This will be your treatment appointment, if you are just using The Wand (with no sedation being involved) you will be explained the process and there will be a dentist in addition to a nurse present. If at any time you need to stop, you can discuss hand gestures with the dentist as a signal so they are aware ahead of time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who will benefit from The Wand?

Nervous patients, both adults and children, will benefit from The Wand technology, in addition to those who suffer from dental phobia. However, this is suitable for most patients.

When is The Wand used?

The Wand can be used for all routine dental treatments including crowns, fillings, periodontal treatments and root canals.

Is The Wand painful or uncomfortable?

As The Wand technology is designed to remove any anxiety associated with injections, it’s generally associated with a discomfort free procedure and our patients have given us positive feedback and said it isn’t painful at all.

What makes The Wand better than using a traditional syringe or injection?

Often the pain caused by injections with traditional syringes is created by the anaesthetic being delivered too quickly or with too much pressure / force behind it. The Wand eliminates these factors by using an automated flow rate of anaesthetic at a controlled pressure for a comfortable delivery. .

Not only this, but The Wand also delivers a more targeted injection, so your lips and tongue needn’t be numb for hours after your visit to the dentist. Using a sensor-controlled probe that numbs only the tooth being treated. The process is known as STA (Single Tooth Anesthesia).

Will The Wand give me confidence for future dental visits?

Most commonly, dental phobia is born out of a negative experience with the dentist in the past. Once we have demonstrated to you that you are in competent, safe, and experienced hands, we’re sure you will feel more confident about dentist visits going forward. The Wand has really helped many of our patients overcome their fears of injections, and they have felt that the treatment itself is, therefore, associated with a much more pleasant experience.

How much is The Wand in Reading? Will I need to pay extra for The Wand technology?

Our in-practice surgeries are equipped with The Wand machine and unlike other practices, we do not charge any extra for the system to our patients. This is an extension of our commitment to further supporting our nervous and dental phobic patients.

I have been going to olive tree dental now, for about a year and a half. The service is always so friendly and they really help you make the best decision when it comes to your teeth. I have had Invisalign treatment with Patricia, which was exceptional. The regular hygienist appointments and general check ups are also very good, and the parking around the dentist is excellent. I would highly recommend going here.read more

From the first step through the door it felt far removed from the standard clinical feel of any dentist I had been to previously. Not only are the offices beautifully decorated and the staff welcoming and friendly but the resulting impression from my first appointment was one of confidence instead of fear. Dr Zyada was very thorough in her checks and took the time to go through each and every tooth to explain exactly what needed to be done and why. It makes the return appointment a lot less daunting, thank you. Would definitely recommend Olive Tree Dental.read more

The team at Olive Tree Dental are great! My dentist was very thorough and took the time to patiently explain her findings and what would be required for future visits. Like most people I don't enjoy going to the dentist, but the team made it as comfortable as possible. The rooms were really clean too!read more

I went to Olive Tree Dental Clinic few times for teeth cleaning, emergency dental work and consultations. The clinic was very clean and inviting, stuff was very friendly and dentist was very gentle and reassuring. I appreciated the fact that she was communicating with me during the procedures so I wasn’t wondering what’s going on or when it will finish. I’ve been to quite a few dental clinics previously but never felt as valued and welcomed, and never got such high quality dental service. Highly recommend it to anyone and especially to those who feel nervous and anxious when visiting dentist. I feel lucky to live nearby!read more
