We recommend families come in and bring children in prior to their appointment for a practice tour. It helps ease any nerves dental-phobic children may have and allows our Dentist to start building rapport and trust with your child. We then will kindly ask you to fill in “A note to your Dentist”, a brief form that helps assess how nervous your child is and allows us to prepare for his/her appointment ahead of time as best we can.
When you arrive at Olive Tree, you’ll understand why we break away from the traditional dental setting; the colours of the practice are warm & inviting. You will never see our Dentists or team hushing your children and have fun dental props on hand, including some fun crosswords and activity sheets to keep them occupied whilst in the waiting lounge.
Your child will never feel rushed, and neither will you; we provide a bespoke treatment plan for every patient, big or small! We will also ease the child into the dental chair with props and have a conversation that’s about anything they enjoy talking about before carefully explaining what is about to happen at each stage of the appointment/treatment.
The dentist will speak to your child in a language they understand, we won’t give them any heavy dental jargon that’s confusing, and we will always try to be as honest as possible and make them feel like they are as much as part of the decision-making process as you are as a parent. We recommend positive reinforcement and gentle persuasion at times (who doesn’t want frozen yoghurt or sugar-free ice cream after they’ve been super brave!).
Your child’s exam will be comprehensive, especially since it’s their first visit; we will not only examine their teeth and take X-Rays but also photos using an intra-oral camera and discuss preventative hygiene and tips for both children and parents to get the most out of the visit and to ensure a lifetime of happy, healthy teeth.
Children aged 9 and under can be added to a parent/carer membership and will receive various complimentary treatments based on the parent/carer’s membership tier. This membership applies to 10 – 17-year-olds. Treatments on adult teeth are charged at adult fees.
View Memberships Become a MemberYes, absolutely; we want you both to be as comfortable as possible with your child’s patient journey at Olive Tree. Whilst the Dentist examines your teeth thoroughly, children (depending on their age) can sit on their parent's lap or in the dental chair.
The Dentist will assess eruption patterns and look for signs of plaque or bacteria/cavity development. The dentist will also assess the overall oral health & hygiene and demonstrate how best to brush your teeth, offering advice on the right toothbrushes to use and which toothpaste; and for infants, we’ll advise on when and how to care for those first baby teeth. The appointment may also include overall discussions about general health and how certain medical conditions can connect with oral health, and what to look out for.

Absolutely the Dentist will tailor the advise to suit your child’s needs if you can’t get them to stop using a dummy/pacifier and this is affecting their teeth in any way. If they are grinding their teeth constantly and this could cause further issues, the Dentist will discuss preventative measures to ensure this is dealt with as quickly as possible before it creates any long-term issues later.
Yes, we do, and depending on the level of crowding or alignment required, the Orthodontist will carry out a comprehensive assessment to decide which is the better option. For some children, early intervention is required. For others, the Orthodontist may recommend you wait until your child’s baby teeth have all fallen out and adult teeth have replaced them before making any decisions. This is decided on a case-by-case basis. If you are considering orthodontic treatment for yourself, we will kindly request that you attend a separate consultation at a mutually convenient appointment time.
The Dentist may discuss various options, including a sports guard, especially if your child plays any contact sports such as Rugby. Prevention at this stage is key, so please do let your Dentist know if your child does play competitively.
