The Crowns Patient Journey

Journey Icon

First Treatment Visit
If you are a new patient to Olive Tree Dental a new patient exam is carried out first to ensure you are dentally fit for the treatment. We carry out a comprehensive assessment of your mouth, and take X-rays and photographs of your teeth, whilst also examining the soft tissues such as your gums and tongue, as well the gland area.

Once the need for a crown is ascertained, we kindly ask that you attend a follow-up crown preparation visit.

Journey Icon

Second Treatment Visit
The tooth is prepared for the crown. The area is numbed with local anesthetic to ensure you’re completely comfortable throughout. The decay is removed, and the tooth is shaped, so as to receive the crown. A digital scan is taken to the laboratory, who can produce a made-to-measure crown. A temporary crown is placed whilst you wait for the final result.

Journey Icon

Third Treatment Visit
Your tooth is numbed with anaesthetic and the temporary crown is removed. Once the area has been cleaned, the crown is placed over the top, and its fit is reviewed. Once you and your dentist are happy with the fit, the crown is cemented in place with a strong adhesive.

Journey Icon

We recommend avoiding hot food and drink whilst your tooth is still numb, as you may experience a burning sensation within the tooth. If anything doesn’t feel quite right in the days after treatment, please let us know.

What’s The Advantage Of My Dentist Fitting a Temporary Crowns?

We fit a temporary crown whilst you wait for your permanent crown to be made. This means you won’t have to put up with an unsightly and aesthetically compromised tooth whilst you wait for your permanent crown to be made.

Will Anyone Notice I Have a Crown?

The materials we use to create your crown emulate real tooth enamel remarkably well. Once your crown is fitted, no-one (apart from your dentist!) will notice your crown isn’t real tooth enamel. It will be an almost identical match to your existing tooth shade. The materials we use include E-max® / Zirconia, Porcelain and Precious Metal.

Can I Chew Comfortable With a Crown?

Crowns are extremely hardwearing, as is the adhesive used to cement them in place. You will have the freedom to enjoy a variety of foods with varying textures with your new crown.

How Long Will my Dental Crown Last?

On average, dental crowns can last anything between 5 – 15 years. The life space of a crown will depend on your routine, oral hygiene practices and personal habits. The amount of can “wear and tear” the crown is exposed to can affect the longevity of a crown.

Things to look out for that can reduce the life span of a crown are:

  • Grinding or clenching your teeth.
  • Chewing ice.
  • Biting your fingernails.
  • Using your teeth to open packaging rather than using scissors for example.

I have been going to olive tree dental now, for about a year and a half. The service is always so friendly and they really help you make the best decision when it comes to your teeth. I have had Invisalign treatment with Patricia, which was exceptional. The regular hygienist appointments and general check ups are also very good, and the parking around the dentist is excellent. I would highly recommend going more

From the first step through the door it felt far removed from the standard clinical feel of any dentist I had been to previously. Not only are the offices beautifully decorated and the staff welcoming and friendly but the resulting impression from my first appointment was one of confidence instead of fear. Dr Zyada was very thorough in her checks and took the time to go through each and every tooth to explain exactly what needed to be done and why. It makes the return appointment a lot less daunting, thank you. Would definitely recommend Olive Tree more

The team at Olive Tree Dental are great! My dentist was very thorough and took the time to patiently explain her findings and what would be required for future visits. Like most people I don't enjoy going to the dentist, but the team made it as comfortable as possible. The rooms were really clean too!read more

I went to Olive Tree Dental Clinic few times for teeth cleaning, emergency dental work and consultations. The clinic was very clean and inviting, stuff was very friendly and dentist was very gentle and reassuring. I appreciated the fact that she was communicating with me during the procedures so I wasn’t wondering what’s going on or when it will finish. I’ve been to quite a few dental clinics previously but never felt as valued and welcomed, and never got such high quality dental service. Highly recommend it to anyone and especially to those who feel nervous and anxious when visiting dentist. I feel lucky to live nearby!read more
